Happy New Year! Welcome to 2025!
How did you welcome the new year? Did you celebrate with fireworks at midnight, or did you sleep through it, letting it arrive like any other night? Maybe you planned ahead for a party, excited to ring in the new year with friends and family.
The way we approach the new year often reflects how we approach life. Some people take time to reflect on the past year, set goals, and create a plan. Others prefer to go with the flow and see where the year takes them.
But why set goals? Imagine you’re driving to a destination and you get lost. Your GPS isn’t working, so you call a friend for directions. What’s the first thing they ask?
“Where are you now?”
You can’t reach your destination unless you first know where you are. The same goes for setting goals.
How to Set Goals for the New Year
Define Your Goal: What do you want to achieve? A new job? Improved fitness? Healthier eating? Write it down.
Visualise Success: What does success look like? Be specific. (For example: "I’m working 2-3 days per week," "I’m exercising three times a week," "I’m eating vegetables four times a week.")
Learn from Others: Research how successful people have achieved similar goals and take inspiration from them. Break It Down: Identify the steps needed to reach your goal.
Make It Easy: Set yourself up for success. Lay out your workout clothes the night before, set reminders for job searches, or meal prep for the week.
Push Through Challenges: When things get tough, do it anyway. It’s like jumping into cold water—count down from three and just dive in!Stay Committed: If you start to struggle, revisit Step 1. Remind yourself why you started.
Make goal-setting enjoyable! Consider different areas of your life—finances, relationships, work, health, and fitness.
By this time next year, imagine celebrating the progress you've made. Happy goal-setting with purpose!
